Recorder help

Microphone access and recording recovery

Use these checks if your browser cannot start recording or if a recording was interrupted before transcription began.

Allow microphone access

Open the site permissions beside the address bar, set Microphone to Allow, and reload the page. If access is still blocked, allow microphone access for your browser in the device privacy settings.

  • Confirm the correct microphone is connected and selected.
  • Close other apps that may be using the microphone.
  • Reload the page and select Start recording again.

Return after an unexpected closure

While recording, VoiceScribe saves audio segments in this browser. If the tab or browser closes unexpectedly, reopen this recording page on the same browser and device so recovery can continue automatically.

  • Do not clear this site's browser data while recovery is pending.
  • Keep the page open while the saved recording finishes processing.
  • If automatic recovery fails, use Retry or download the saved audio when that option is shown.

Before leaving during a recording

The browser shows a confirmation before closing or navigating away while a recording is active. Staying on the page is the safest option until recording and processing finish.

FAQ

Browser recording and transcription questions

Can I record audio in my browser and transcribe it?

Yes. Allow microphone access, record for up to three hours, and pause or resume whenever needed. After you finish, VoiceScribe uploads the audio and starts automatic transcription.

Is the transcription shown in real time?

No. The browser recorder captures microphone audio first. Transcription begins after you finish the recording and the saved audio is uploaded.

Can it record system audio or a browser meeting tab?

The public recorder currently captures microphone input. It does not directly capture system audio or audio from a shared browser tab.

How long can I record?

A recording must be at least 5 seconds and can be up to 3 hours long. The recorder stops automatically at the maximum duration.

Can I pause and continue the same recording?

Yes. Use Pause while recording and Resume when you are ready. The audio remains part of the same recording.

Do I need to install a voice recorder?

No. The recorder runs in a supported web browser. You only need to allow microphone access when prompted.
